Why does www.icloud.com always ask for verification?

Every Sunday I log on to https://www.icloud.com.
For a while now, I get the screen asking for my Two-Factor Authentication.
It says “A message with a verification code has been sent to your devices. Enter the code to continue.

Every time, I click on “Didn’t get a verification code?”
I select Text Me.
I get the text message, and enter the code and get on. I tell it to trust this device and browser.

Why don't I get the initial verification code?

Why does it not remember that I told it to trust the browser?

What can I do to get it to remember?

There is a difference between a trusted device and a trusted phone number.

You can check for trusted decides and numbers at appleid.apple.com.

I've experimented with different browsers trying to solve this, but mainly it is Chrome.

Some browsers may not "respect" the cookie for this. Safari does.

When I told iCloud to text the verification code to me, the text went to all three devices.

As an SMS, not a notification., Only your actual trusted devices will get the code :first"

Interesting. I found my devices are my iMac, my iPhone, my wife's iMac, her iPhone, and her old iPhone she doesn't have anymore (which I just removed). My iPad is missing from this list. My wife's phone has an apple pay icon under it, which is weird as she never uses hers (except for one test usage), and I use mine, but the icon doesn't show under mine.

None of the devices show up here as "trusted".

I went to my "system settings/icloud/Account details/Devices", and found my Mac, my iPad, my phone, and my wife's Mac, and clicked on them, finding they are trusted. Her phone does not show here, but my iPad does.

I also noticed in "system settings/icloud/Account details/Contact", that it wanted to verify one of my e-mail addresses. I clicked on the verify button and waited a while before I force-killed "System Preferences"

I have asked this screenshot be removed as it has personal data on it that you should not post in a public space. Using your posted email address and date of birth someone may be able to compromise your account.

You are looking in your Mac's preferences. You need to sign in to appleid.apple.com as I posted.

You can only see your trusted devices at that account website.
