Disk formatting

Hello,

I wanted to format my macbook but then a realised i have couple folders on desktop that i do not want to earase and they are backed up on icloud so I was wandering if they are going to be delete from the icloud too because in past when I deleted something even though it was backed up it totally disapeard on other devices. So I would like to know if I am going to loose those folders or I will be able to download them back from icloud.
