How do I control which Bluetooth device my AirPods connect too

My airpods are configured to connect to my iPad phone Samsung tv etc. how do I control which device my air pods connect too. I have difficulty connecting to my tv. It seems like air pods connect to another device first. Tv searches but cannot connect. I tured off bluetooth on my phone etc. How cen i tell which device my AirPod is cinnnected too Thanks
