How do I reconnect with internet?
Updated to El Capitan recently.
Suddenly lost internet connection last night.
Diagnostic said it was a self assigned IP problem. Thanks

Hi,
You can actually generate a report that you can copy and paste in your Reply here. Hopefully someone with internect connection experience more than myself can help you ...
Create a diagnostics report
Wireless Diagnostics automatically saves a diagnostics report before it displays its summary. You can create the same report at any time by holding down the Option key and choosing Create Diagnostics Report from the Wi-Fi status menu . It can take your Mac several minutes to create the report.
OS X El Capitan or earlier saves the report to your desktop.
The report is a compressed file with a name that begins “WirelessDiagnostics.” It contains many files that describe your wireless environment in detail. A network specialist can examine them for further analysis.
It would be helpful if you say what you have done for the last 3 hours trying to resolve this.
Is this your own personal Network?
Is it your router, is it near by? Unplug it for a hard restart, and try again. Same for modem.
If this is a cable modem, Can you plug in the ethernet cable directly to the computer, bypassing the wifi ?
Make changes to your Network Preferences.
Fall back to a previous OS using your backup plan.

It is now more than 3 hours that I have been trying to figure this out.
I have restarted my computer and have tried to generate a diagnostics report but even failed at that.
Can I pay some one to do an online chat with me and just walk me through. It seems like this is a very common problem that one of you can solve in 5 min. Thank you
Have you tried restarting?
Looked at your >System Preferences >Network setting
