Photos 1.5 - Smart Albums Not Showing Photos Taken On Certain Date

I'm using Photos 1.5 on OS X El Capitan.

I've made a Smart Album with ONE rule in it:

Match the following condition:

Date is 02/09/2017

But there's a problem. The Smart Album shows SOME photos taken on 02/09/2017 but not ALL of them. It's showing 31 photos when in fact there are 36 photos in my library taken on that date.

Any idea what's going on?

If the photos are just in the albums with one day off, correct the timezone for the date and time.

You can see the timezone, that Photos is using for a photo, if you open the command "Image > Adjust Date and time". At the bottom of the panel you will see the "closest city", The timezone for this city is used to interpret the date and time you are seeing in the Info panel. Photos may be using different time zones for photos from from the same camera, if you import the photos while being in different time zones.

See: How Photos Handles Time Zones when Importing Photos

For example, the photo has been taken in Ireland, but Photos is using the timezone of Iceland, to interpret the date and time.

Is your signature "iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)," still correct, or are you using a newer version of Photos?

In the early versions of Photos the date rules did not work well for certain countries and language formats.

In Photos on High Sierra are two different date rules - "date captured" and "date added". The first one will search for the capture date and second one for the date, when you added the photo to Photos. The results may be different. Which rule did you use?

Yes, my signature is correct. I'm using OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 running Photos 1.5 (370.42.0).

OK, so they've added new Smart Album features and fixed this issue?

Seems like I may have to upgrade from El Capitan to at least Sierra. I'm worried about installing High Sierra because I really don't want the performance of my iMac (Mid 2010) to take a hit.

Before you take the plunge to upgrade, check, if there is a problem with the missing photos for that album. Can you edit the photos, that do not appear or export them? Do the missing photos appear in the "Hidden" album?

Do the photos appear, if you use two rules in combination "match all: 'Date is after 2/8/2017' and 'Date is before 2/10/2017" (assuming your number format is month/day/year)?

Yeah, the photos themselves are fine. I can edit them. And they're not ones that I've Hidden.

I tried using two rules like you said, but that still shows me the same 31 photos.

The weird thing is a made a second Smart Album...

Match the following condition:

Date is 03/09/2017

And the 5 photos (taken on 02/09/2017) that are MISSING from the 02/09/2017 Smart Album are showing up at the start of this 03/09/2017 album.

I don't understand.
