Trying to Restore new Ipad from a previous Ipad

Got a new iPad. I backed up my previous iPad Air in ITunes and am now trying to Restore that backup to my new IPad. I get an error message that tells me my new device is not compatible???

If your old iPad is running a newer version of iOS than the new (e.g. old device with 11.2.6 but new one with, say 11.2.5) then you first need to update the new iPad to that same or newer version of iOS.

iPhone backup I just bought a new iPhone 12. I did not back up my old iphone 6s in quite a while because I didn't want to pay for more iCloud storage. iphone wont restore okay so i had to get a new iphone bc my old one was freaking out and messing up... it was on the ios 14 beta. i backed it up onto my computer and trying to move all the stuff to the new phone but its giving me an error saying the new phone isnt up to date but it is. am i going to have to get ios14 on the new device for this to work.
