Old iPhone 4 won't update on iTunes/won't wake up

Old iPhone 4 shows "plug to iTune" graphics, BUT when USB connects the device to a Mac, iTune says it cannot update the device. Tried multiple versions of iTunes. Please help

If I understand your post correctly, you are seeing the Connect to iTunes screen on your iPhone and you've tried to update it in iTunes but have been unsuccessful. I'd like to help.

We'd recommend trying a different USB port and cable. If you are still getting this error, try a different computer.

If you get the same message on another computer, you'll need to contact Apple Support directly. You can do that here:

Thank you,

Tried updating the iPhone 4, following the instructions in the URL you kindly provided, but iTunes "could not update".

It there offered ‘restore and update’ option, but at the end of that process I got a message saying: "The iPhone could not be restored, The device cannot be found".

The screen still shows the cable to iTunes logo graphics.

Please help!
