Question: Menu bar becomes tinted red

This started happening several weeks ago, and I have no idea what's causing it, but every so often my Mac's menu bar will become tinted red in the upper-right area:

The strange thing is that if I take a screenshot it's not there, so I had to use my iPhone and take a photo of it. The problem will go away only when I reboot the Mac, and it will stay away for a few days before it comes back. Never did this prior to a few weeks ago.

Any ideas?

Since it wont show up when you take a screenshot it is most likely a physical issue. It's most likely that your screen is broken and has some kind of bleeding issue. I'd take it to an authorised Apple Store and let them have a look at it.

Hope it works out.

I don't think that's it, freddedotme, but I do think it is worth taking into the Genius Bar: Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple

Is there any action on your part that seems to cause the issue?

Yeah, it's definitely not a physical issue. It's clearly something in software that's causing a gradient tint of just the upper-right part of the menu bar. I don't recall doing anything that causes it. There's so much time between events that it's hard to determine a common factor.

Ok, this is really strange. I just found that if I go into System Settings->General and toggle the "Automatically hide and show the menu bar" option the red goes away.
