Macbook Air speaker not working

Please help!

I have a MacBook Air, 2012. Out of the blue, my speakers begin not working.

1. When I start up my laptop, I still hear that "ding" sounds, which seems to come from the speakers.

2. The Volume Icon at the top of my screen has turned grey and I am unable to adjust the volume.

3. In System Preferences, under Sound, I am unable to adjust the volume, un click Mute, and there are no devices under Output to choose from.

2. Reset SMC. Choose the method for “If the battery is non-removable”.
