I cannot play movie I bought or rented unless I download it.. Why is that? it was not a problem in the past

I cannot play movie I bought or rented unless I download it.. Why is that? it was not a problem in the past. I do not remember when it started to happen but I have been noticing it for a while. So any of the movies which are not downloaded on my iMac, they would not play directly.

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to stream movies you have purchased from the iTunes Store in iTunes on your iMac. To help with this issue, please follow each of the steps in this Apple resource on your situation.

If you can't stream or watch video content from the iTunes Store or third-party apps - Apple Support
