Exporting projects with both .Mov and AVCHD files in iMovie 10.2.2 I recently accepted the 10.2.2 update to iMovie on Mac, but since then I don’t seem to be able to export projects containing more than one file type. As I use clips from different devices I could previously use both AVCHD (Sony camera) and .MOV (iPhone) in same project. Now I get an export failure error relating to the ‘absolute frame’. When I check back in the project I can see the .MOV clips are now showing as blank (they didn’t when I was assembling the timeline however). I do seem to be able to export projects containing just ONE file type Ok, tho. However my clips are split 50/50 between the different types. Any suggestions - or should I just go through the arduous task of converting half the files to match the others and re-add them to the project from there?

Can iMovie save in ANY format other than .MOV I've just started using iMovie (10.1.10) and am curious if there is ANY other format option to save a movie in other than .MOV ? I have been converting 8mm film to digital; the output from the device is .MP4. I notice that the raw .MP4 file is greatly smaller in size than the .MOV once I've run it through iMovie. Case in point: a 12 minute clip in .MP4 took 902MB of space; a 37 SECOND clip I edited out and saved in iMovie took 653MB of space. Granted, I am saving the clips at high resolution and quality (which being old 8mm is probably a wasted effort). Any work-arounds to save space, or save as a different format?

Hi,

Try downloading to your Mac desktop using the Image Capture app on your Mac. Another way would be to download to the Photos app, from where you can access them from within iMovie.

iMovie 10 supports several formats, including Mp4/AAC and .mov. Your profile indicates that you are using iMovie 9 that I think supports the same formats. If your Sony format is AVCHD, you might need to convert the MTS files to Mp4/AAC, using the free download, Handbrake. To get at the MTS files in the AVCHD package, take a look at this link:
