Hello there ,
Most often than not an update may fail due to drops in internet bandwidth. Also the phrase “Device cannot be found” is peculiar to faulty lightening cables ( I have experienced this one in particular and a change in cable will do just fine)
As for the former try downloading the latest iTunes from apple if the update still gives you the same feedback

Old version of iTunes or an out of date Mac OS.
Unable to update or restored the iPhone despite several attempts.
Visited the Apple Store and was informed the unit is no more under warranty with error code 4013 or possible port problem. They are not able to assist to fix / change the port and restore the iPhone and expect us to buy a new iPhone.
