Over 900 Photos on my Phone I can't Delete

I started with 4000 photos on my phone and have now deleted everything in the camera roll. I want to completely wipe all the photos on my phone and start from a clean slate, as I've backed all the photos up.

There are still, for some reason, over 900 photos that I CANNOT delete. I've tried the 'Image Capture' trick, but Image Capture says there are No photos - the same with the Photos App on my Mac.

How do I delete these photos? Lots of people have complained about not being able to remove photos from the Selfies folder because they are still in the Camera Roll, but I have photos in LOADS of folders that AREN'T in the Camera Roll!

Any help will be greatly appreciated because this is driving me insane!

Were they synced there using iTunes?

Photos synced via USB/wifi and iTunes can't be deleted from the phone, You connect to iTunes again and deselect those photos and resync. That removes them.
