Does anyone know of printer driver work around for Canon MX870

After updating to "Hi Sierra", Canon informs me that they no longer provide a driver for this model printer. It prints perfectly and scans documents just right so there is no need at all to get rid of it.

Is there a work around out there that will allow me to keep using this printer or am I forced to add it the global pollution problem that is "Technology"???

The Canon PIXMA MX870 Series is shown as a supported printer in the 2017-07-06 Canon Printer Drivers v3.4 for OS X.

There are two alternative approaches (try these in order):

  1. Reset the printing system

System Preferences : Printers & Scanners

    1. Select the MX870 entry, right-click on it, and choose Reset printing system…
    2. When you click the + button to readd, the MX870 entry should be in the menu. Select it.
      1. The operating system may reach out through the Internet and install the latest driver
  2. Install the above Canon Printer Drivers v3.4, and choose Canon MX870 Series driver during step 1 procedures.

When done with either above, right-click on the MX870 printer entry and choose Set default printer.
