Computer has been in storage. Mac computer has mac osx 10.9.5 version. Can not update to current version. Besides getting another computer, what can be done to upgrade it?

Upgrade to El Capitan
get El Capitan from the App Store
Then to Sierra or High Sierra if it meets the specs:

Note that although Apple specs state that Sierra/High Sierra will run on 2GB RAM, a more realistic amount would be 6-8GB. So it may be a bit slow.
Upgrade the RAM in that iMac to its maximum 8 GBs.

When buying RAM for Macs from Crucial memory, purchase ONLY directly from the Crucial memory website. NOT from some other online source.
