Mac OSX will not update to new version

Computer has been in storage. Mac computer has mac osx 10.9.5 version. Can not update to current version. Besides getting another computer, what can be done to upgrade it?


Processor speed: 3.06 GHZ

Memory 4GB

iMac, 10.9.5 version

Upgrade the RAM in that iMac to its maximum 8 GBs.


You MUST use THE EXACT RAM that your model iMac is spec'd for.

and reliable Mac RAM can ONLY be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory (crucial .com) or OWC, aka, Other World Computing (macsales.com).

When buying RAM for Macs from Crucial memory, purchase ONLY directly from the Crucial memory website. NOT from some other online source.


RAM modules are, relatively, easy to install.
