While importing from a Sony 1500A DVCAM deck several tapes imported several single-frame or three-frame clips followed by longer, useable clips for the rest of the tape. But the latest tape imported only as 1-6 frames each. So far I can't import that tape at all. As far as I know, I haven't changed any settings, so I can't figure out what's up.
Is there a work-around?

Thanks, Tom, but I don't see a way to make a movie via Quicktime.
I'm connected to my DVCAM deck by firewire (400>800). When I try Quicktime file>New Movie all I see as an option is my laptop camera. I looked at System Preferences but don't see an option there either.
I'm sure I can import via FCP 7 but I'd rather stick to my learning path on FCPX if I can.
I don't have a tape device any longer, but you should be able to see it here if the deck is connected.
What version of FCP is this? Try using the QuickTime player.

You can you the QT player to capture from tape. Use File>New Movie Recording. That should give you access to the connected deck.
Brilliant. Looks like it's working perfectly.
But if you or anyone can give me advice on why it won't import into FCPX I would be very thankful.

I don’t know. Just that FCPX is quite bad at it. Maybe it doesn’t like the deck.
