problem with IPHoto after upgrade to High Sierra

After upgrading to High Sierra, all by a few of my photos disappeared from Photo. All the pictures are still on my iPad. Is this a Cloud issue?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5), using Safari

Please clarify your question

What version of iPhoto did you have before the upgrade? After the upgrade are you using iPhoto or Photos? If Photos have you migrated the iPhoto library to Photos (drag the iPhoto library to the Photos icon in the Dock to migrate it if it did not automatically migrate when you first launched Photos

It was Photos on the Mac Pro when I purchased in 2016 not IPhotos. It is also on my iPad (all the pictures are on the iPad). I also have Time share as a backup, but I wonder if I didn't goof something up with ICloud. I don't understand how to use the Cloud.
