In a Macbook late 2009 the battery is only 4600 mah. Can I safely replace it with a 5800 mah battery compatable with A1342 ?

I have a Macbook late 2009 unibody A1342. Would it be ok to replace a 4600 mah original battery with 5800 mah compatible one to my model? I think my original battery is 60w and the larger one is slightly higher wattage. The original battery is still performing normally but MacOS High Sierra drains it quickly.

MacBook, iOS 11.2.6

Not for batteries. Apple no long makes batteries for obsolete models. However, vendors often sell uncertified refurbished batteries which don't work as you would expect. You should pick and choose your battery vendor. I have had luck once and a while. Most recently I replaced the battery in the 17" version of your model using a battery kit from OWC. I have been more than satisfied with it, thus far.
