Can I use a WD Passport external hard drive for Mac with my iMac or only with laptop computers?

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

FWIW, the WD Passport for Mac is nothing special

other than it is formatted for Mac.

BTW, do not install any software that comes with it.

It is not needed and will only cause problems.
