Why aren't my iMessages sending on my MacBook Air?

My iMessages have been working well until now. I am able to recieve texts from everyone on both my Mac and my iPhone 7, however, everytime I send a message from my Mac it fails to deliver. Then, when I sent it through my phone instead, the message still syncs up on my laptop. My phone and computer are connected to the same wifi network. I've tried looking at my send and recieve messages, and turning off iMessage for a few minutes and then turing it back on, but nothing worked.
