Getting old photos from old Time Machine backup from iPhoto days

I have a Mac Book Pro. I am currently using Mac OS X 10.13.3 I want to access a few photos from an old Time Machine backup (over 5 years old) from when I was using iPhoto. Is there a way to see and import a few of these photos to Photos on my current computer? All I have been able to find about this when browsing online is how to restore a whole photo library, which I do not want to do.

Thanks for any help on this.

That is all you really can do - use the Time Machine Application to restore the library and migrate it to Photos then export the desired photos from that library and import into your main library

This is not a Photos question but a Time Machine question - you may be able to restore just the desired photos if you know their file names adn then import them to Photos. I'm not sure if you can dig around inside the iPhoto library package and restore select files or not

I have been able to find about this when browsing online is how to restore a whole photo library, which I do not want to do.

It is the only currently supported way. You could restore the iPhoto Library to an external drive, where you have enough free storage and then use iPhoto to search for the photos you want. I am keeping a drive with all old iPhoto, Aperture, Photos Libraries to be able to restore older photos. It is much more convenient than to have to search in a Time Machine backup of a library.

If you browse your Time Machine backup in the Finder, you will see an item "Backups.backupdb"

For example,I am seeing

/Volumes/LaCieBackup/Backups.backupdb/Hagrid/2013-06-08-213951/Hagrid_HD/Users/ myname/Pictures/

Click through, until you see your Pictures folder with the old iPhoto Library. If you can find it, ctrl-click it, the use the command "Show Package Contents".

In the library package look for folders "Originals" or "Masters". Inside will be subfolders named for the year, month, day of the import. If you have an idea, when you imported the missing photos, try to track them down in the nested yoeatl and monthly folders.
