Trying to install Windows 8.1, I get the folder with question mark after partitioning and auto-restart.

Hi there,

I am hoping someone on the forums knows a potential solution to this problem.

I am trying to install Windows 8.1 on my 2010 MacBook Pro running High Sierra 10.13.3.

Everything seems to be working just fine, except when trying to install Windows. There's nothing wrong with any of my hardware or hard drive. I try to install Windows using the Boot Camp assistant, the process goes just fine. Boot Camp Assistant partitions the hard drive, but then attempts to restart, and then displays the grey screen with the folder with question mark, "?".

I have tried restarting the computer afterwards and holding the option key, but the Windows partition is not shown, just the bootable Windows DVD I made from the ISO file on Microsoft's website. After I get the folder with the "?", I just cold boot and restart, hold option, and select my hard drive and Mac OSX boots up, and runs just fine. I have tried this process twice.

It just seems like such a simple problem. Can anyone help out?

Thanks,

Jessica
