A reset of my apple ID deleted my contacts

I couldn't remember my password. A few clicks had Apple suggesting an AppleID reset. I followed the instructions. Now my contacts are wiped out, but everything else - email, apps, photos - are intact. Any ideas how to recover the contacts? By the way, I had iCloud set to backup the contacts folder, but there are no backup files to restore.

I'm desperate because I'm handing the phone (and possibly the account) back to my employer in two days and need to export my contacts.

Go to iCloud.com using a computer and select Settings. When that page loads, look at the bottom left side under Advanced and see if you can restore from there.

Have you checked at iCloud.com/Contacts to see if the contacts are there?

Hi Eric. Yes. It shows me as a contact and that's it.

Yep, tried that already, but it says "No archives available." Perplexing, because the phone setting has always been for Contacts to use iCloud, and iCloud backup engaged.

If you don't have a backup to restore from and they aren't at iCloud.com, it appears they are gone. I've read there are IOS data recovery programs available in the App Store.
