Why won't Apple TV accept my username and password?

I have the original Apple TV. I haven't used it for a few years. I tried to download a movie to my Apple TV but it won't accept my username and password. I changed the password and tried again, still no luck.

Even if you get it to work somehow, it won’t last long ⁽³⁾:

On September 9, 2015, Apple officially classified the first generation Apple TV as being obsolete/vintage which means that owners of first generation Apple TV will no longer be able to get service after this date. ^[15]
In September 2017, with the release of iTunes 12.7, it is no longer possible to sync and stream with the first generation Apple TV, although it is not listed in the iTunes update release notes.
Beginning May 25, 2018, security changes will prevent Apple TV (1st generation) from using the iTunes Store. This device is an obsolete Apple product and will not be updated to support these security changes. ^[16]
