My iTunes Library and Purchased Songs are Missing!

Something crashed in my computer and now my whole iTunes library is gone! Shouldn't the music I purchased be somehow kept track with my AppleID so I can't ever lose it even if my computer malfunctions? Isn't there some sort of record of my music? Please help!!

Hi, kristin43.

Something crashed in my computer and now my whole iTunes library is gone!

People mean a lot of different things when they say that so I'm not sure exactly what your situation is.

It's possible that your song files are still on your hard drive.

Have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base for some ideas on how to find them, changing file extensions in the search as is necessary (i.e. .mp3 or .m4a.)

If your hard drive has actually been wiped clean, your options are limited.

Apple's policy is clear: iTS purchases can be downloaded only once. It is your responsibility to make back-ups.

That being said, at their discretion they have made one-time exceptions to this policy. You can ask for an exception by submitting the form at the bottom of this page:

http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/backup/

Good Luck! But whatever the response from Apple, remember:

Your music is valuable - please back it up!
