Change location of cropping panels in Ken Burns effect

Friends,

If possible, I'd like to change how the Ken Burns effect crops stills. Currently, if the image is more of a landscape image, the KB places the red "end" crop inside (or outside) the green "start" crop. It's easy to use the effect to zoom in on a face. However, if the image is portrait, the red and green crop marks are lined up vertically, making it difficult to zoom in on a face.

Is there a way to alter the way FCPX implements the KB effect, or am I stuck playing with the crop handles in whatever orientation FCPX throws at me?

Thanks!

Steve

N.B. - I asked this question six years ago, and the answer was "no." I'm hoping something changed that I haven't figured out. Thanks.

Or take an image such as your first one, change the green and red rectangles so they look like what you want, open the Inspector and click this button:

Give it a name and category, and apply it whenever and wherever you want.

excuse my ignorance, but to zoom-in, you simply use the handles of the crop-frame - however the two frames are arranged, nor their aspect-ratio (???)

… or am I lost in translation ? 😝

Iam not sure exactly what you want to achieve.

The green and red rectangles always have the aspect ratio of your project.

If you want to do some cropping to a different aspect ratio then you can use the Trim function.

If, on the other hand, what you want is for the green and red rectangles’ positions to start differently, there are options too. You may set one clip the way you want it, then Copy, and do Paste Attributes on other clips. You may also save a particular configuration as an Effects Preset for reuse.
