I am doing a backup on my 3TB Time Capsule and running High Sierra. The Time Machine window says there are 35GB to back up, and it is estimating over 24 hours. Is this normal, it seems very slow for just transferring data from my iMac to an external drive?

There are a lot of factors when you talk about transferring 35GB to your Time Capsule.
First of, you have the actual Wifi connection that is dependent on how far you're away from the actual unit, in general Wifi don't have the same throughput as if your unit would be connected via cable.
Second of, if your Time Capsule is under heavy load because of many units connected that will also decrease the overall local speed.
Lastly, transferring one big 35GB file compared to a bunch of small files that totals 35GB will have a big difference in speed, the latter being a lot slower.
It's hard to pinpoint your exact problem (if we can consider it being one).

Have you been having speed issues since High Sierra update perhaps? Or latest Time Capsule firmware update?
To really answer your question we need a bit more info.
How is the TC configured into the network?
Is the computer backing up directly or via another router or wifi AP?
What model is your TC?
What model is your main router, modem and any other equipment on the network?
Thank you for your replies. It turns out that the problem was in the algorithm calculating the time: an hour later it was completed, not 24!
