My email won’t push automatically until I open the iOS mail app,why?

I won’t be notified of new mail until I open the iOS mail app. Any ideas why this is happening or how to fix it.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand from your post that you are not receiving emails unless you open the Mail app. What you are describing sounds like the Fetch New Data settings are set to Manually. Use the settings listed below to change the frequency

Tap Settings > Accounts & Passwords > Fetch New Data then choose Automatically, Manually, Hourly, Every 30 Minutes or Every 15 Minutes.

Is this a Yahoo email account by chance? If so I've read that they have stop pushing emails, most likely to get user to ue their Yahoo mail app instead of Apples.
