Itunes and Icloud have hijacked my contacts

I broke my IPhone 5 and now I am trying migrate my files and contacts to a IPhone 4 I have, but ITunes and ICloud feel the Iphone 4 can.t handle the load, PLEASE How can I fix this error from ITunes, "ITunes could not restore the Iphone 5 because the backup was corrupt or is not compatible with the Iphone 4 that is being restored"? This is a business phone and I need all my customers information today, now its almost Tuesday ,

iPhone 4, iOS 7.1.2, updates from IPhone 5s IOS 11.2

But my question is how do I get my personal information (contacts) back in a usable format? My information is there how do I get to it, to at least create a list so I can manually install the contacts into my IPhone.

Sorry. You cannot do that.

Backup from an iPhone with newer iOS version cannot be use to restore on an iPhone with lower iOS version since 2007.

If you use iCloud for your contacts in iPhone 5

Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Contacts: ON

All you need to do is signed in iCloud when you set up the old iPhone 4.

When I try to sign into ICloud on my IPhone 4 I put in my user and password in then it asks me for a verification code? I don't know what that is?

It asked me to set up a passcode account under passcode and security in settings, I don't have that on my IPhone 4 IOS 7.2.1, any ideas which way should go now?
