HDV 720p30 codec?

HDV 720p30 codec?

I just got a Macbook Pro and am trying to view some files shot on a JVC GY-100U HDV camera and recorded to a Firestore device. However, when I open the files they just show a white screen and will play choppy audio at best. I work on FCP 5 at work and never had this problem with Quicktime there. Is there something I can get to just watch my clips in Quicktime without FCP? I have Final Cut Express, but it only has the Apple Intermediate Codec, not straight-up HDV 720p.

Here's the codecs according to the "get info" thing:
HDV 720p30, Integer(Big Endian), Timecode

I've tried switching QT to open with Rosetta, but that just results in a black screen instead of white.

Thanks for the info. I went through the whole article, but I still didn't see anything that answered my question. Perhaps I missed it or am just being thick-headed.

Was there something in particular you wanted me to get from it?

HDV out from FCP should use the Apple Intermediate Codec so QuickTime Player can view the file.

Thanks for the posts but we are still at the same problem. If the FCP codec is not responding Quicktime movies are still white. What then?

Do you the Apple Intermediate Codec plugin installed?...I use it all the time to view videos from FCP in Qt.

My problem is that the video is not pushed out from FCP, so it's not encoded with the Apple Intermediate Codec. It is encoded to MOV format by the Firestore drive. I'll look deeper at there website to see if there's something there.

Apple Intermediate Codec can be in a MOV format...Most all way is...

What is the codec of the video?

According to the "Get Info" dialog, the Codecs are:

HDV 720P, Integer (Big Endian), Timecode

Even when I used these clips in FCP, the sequence was set up as HDV 720P, not the Apple Intermediate.

I think I'm lacking the MPEG-2 codec that is $20 from the Quicktime site. Apparently it comes standard in the Pro Apps, which Final Cut Express is not.

Ive had similar problems with my new imac... someone suggested it might be an intel issue... I can still play my HDV files on my old powerbook... but only get a white screen on the imac... they suggested i need to get the universal binary version of FCP.
