MBP 2017 Boots, Shows Critical Update Install Required, Does Not Allow WiFi As An Interface

I just rebooted my nearly-new 2017 MBP w/ touch bar. I got a dialog saying that a critical update was required. The network interfaces that were offered were

  • WiFi (but that option was disabled)
  • Ethernet or Wired (I don’t remember which)
  • “This machine does not connect to the internet”.

The second option isn’t an option, since I don’t have a wired connection for this machine (I only use it on WiFi), and selecting the last option tells me that I cannot boot without installing the update and only gives me the option to shut down or restart.

The only suggestion I’ve found that might be useful is booting, holding command-p-r, and doing a reinstall of osx via wireless.

Any better ideas?
