Can't handoff and email from iPhone to Mac High Sierra

I start an email on the iPhone (latest IOS) and go to the dock on my Mac. The email icon is there with the iphone icon in the UR corner. Click on the email icon. Mac says “Loading”.

The Mail program loads and shows a blank email screen. Nothing from the iPhone. The email icon in the dock disappears and I am left with nothing.

I close the Mac email app and repeat - click on mail icon in the dock. Mail program says “Loading”, then disappears. No Mail window. Dimmed Mail menu bar at top.

All my iCloud, Network, Bluetooth settings are correct.

Anyone know how to make email handoff work from iPhone to Mac?
