Need help with TimeMachine back-up

I have an external hard drive that I use for my TimeMachine backups. I cannot go all the way back to some photos that I want to recover.... the date I want to recover is grayed out and I cannot access it. Any ideas/tips/hints as to how I can start to troubleshoot this? Would it be worth paying apple to help me with this (i.e. has anyone had success with a similar situation with a grayed-out TimeMachine date?)

Backing Up Laptop AND external hard drive using Time Machine Hi, I have a 2tb external hard drive that I use to store all of my pictures on. I have another, larger external hard drive around 5tb that I want to use to backup both my Macbook, as well as the 2tb external hard drive with all my pictures. I follow the steps that I found online, where you make sure to include the external hard drive in the Time Machine backup. However, each time when the backup is completed, I eject the hard drive with the pictures and look into the Time Machine, and I do not see my pictures external hard drive anywhere. Any idea why this is? my last pictures hard drive failed me, and although I thought it was being backed up, it wasn't and I had to pay to recover the files.

Use Time Machine to backup external drive Hi, I'm trying to use Time Machine to backup my Mac and my external drive (LaCie 2TB HDD) where all my photos are stored. When I look at the settings under "exclude these items.." my external hard drive is there and grayed out, meaning it won't be part om the Time Machine and I can't change it. Are there any solutions for this problem?

trouble accessing a time machine backup - sparsebundle I backed up one of my computers to an external drive in July. At the time I did not notice that it had done the back up in the format of a sparcebundle. I had not seen that before. The machine I backed up is an older iMac on the latest IOS available for it which I believe is 2 back. Now I am trying to open the back up using my current MacBook Air and it does not seem to want to open. It just has a message in the finder screen that says calculating size and it sits there. The external drive on which it sits has plenty of free space. Any guidance / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
