Question:

Question: My MacBook Pro is running slow, how do I check it out?

My Macbook Pro is running slow and I believe it is that I am out of RAM, can I add more RAM or how do I shut down what is running in the background and using RAM so as to increase the speed?

Thanks!

As you can see in the report, RAM is not upgradeable in your model. You can mitigate this with the suggestions Jimmy provided, and with the following.

  • Restart the computer every 2-3 days. That clears out old temp files and logs, and frees up Virtual RAM on computed that are RAM-constrained.
  • Reduce the number of user login items. They all launch every time you start the computer and, if you don't need them available every hour of usage time, they are using some resources. I see no need for HP to install what appears to be a "phone home" plug-in "Product Improvement Study" and I doubt there is much benefit to having the Mac Apple Store open at login.

you appear to have components for canon and HP. Do you use multiple printers? do you need those printers utilities if the driver for the printer and scanner is needed only?

you also appear to be using software for NFTS formatted drive. Do you need to have this drive to go between Mac and Windows directly plugged into those computers? if not you are getting no benefit from using it as NTFS and you have some overhead with the seagate tools.

Hi,

You have a multitude of login items setup.

You can temporarily prevent login items from loading on boot.

Instructions here > macOS Sierra: Open items automatically when you log in

You also have numerous 32 bit apps installed. That can slow your Mac down as well.
