I want to Archive messages when hitting the delete button

I want the delete button to archive messages instead of deleting them because it's the desired effect I use the most often and it's much easier than ^ + ⌘ + A. I feel like I've been able to set it up this way before but I don't remember how.

Change delete/archive action to not open new message, return to inbox instead Hello, I can sometimes get a high volume of messages I need to keep track of. When I finish a task I archive the message. However this takes me to a new message which is a problem because it marks the message as read yet I had no intention of reading that message at that time. This is very cumbersome when trying to sort through a lot of emails! So instead of using the Mail app, I use the gmail app because google does this by default. Anyways, I think it would be a real popular feature if you allowed people to choose whether it takes them to the next message or just closes the message when they archive/delete something
