Adding Verizon.net (now AOL) email to Mac Mail

Trying to setup a Verizon.net mail account as an IMAP account on a iMac running current version of HighSierra. It was working correctly (was setup as POP). I attempt to add it as an AOL account but get "unable to verify account name or password". I am entering the username@verizon.net and what I have verified to be a valid password (logged on on to the POP mail and to aol.com).

I have also tried to add the account manually, but when I use select IMAP it fails. When I I change the drop-down menu to POP the account is added.

I am able to setup the account using AOL on both and iPad and iPhone.
