Errant frames when importing AVCHD

We've been using Canon Vixia HFM500 cameras in our little in-house studio for three years. During that time we've had no problem at all importing our AVCHD footage directly from the camera's SD cards and using FCP's optimized media to edit.

Just within the last three months we've started having issues with the footage.

Now, at random moments, we get these errant frames - one at a time - that pop in and cause a one-frame stutter. If I edit out the single frame, the footage is fine.

We can also work around the issue by importing the footage into Quicktime first and then from Quicktime into FCPX.

Has anyone else seen this issue?

I use Canon C100 and G25s for multi camera shoots and have noticed similar problems this year.

I get a band of interference at the top and the screen freezes as much as once every minute. Its not visible on the camera, but importing into FCPX or iMovie makes it happen at random places.

Fortunately it doesn't affect the duration, so the clips still sync and I have just been changing angles..

Fingers crossed for a fix for this glitch - SOON!

Recently a number of users have reported similar issues.

Canon camera, FCP X 10.4 and High sierra seem to be the combination that produces the issue.

I have not heard of any surefire explanation or fix/workaround up til now.

Send Feedback to Apple, use the FCP X File menu to find the feedback link.

Luis, I hoped you were right but we're running a beta on the latest build and it didn't solve the problem. For the time being we have to open clips in Quicktime then export them again. The Quicktime files work fine.

Massive thanks for the Quicktime workaround! May just have saved me!
I had no i idea you could open an AVCHD and pull the clips!

It seems to have worked, but if I play the clips in the usually bulletproof QT Pro 7 I get a lot of green screen glitches so there is still something still not quite right...

I can't test it, but on another thread someone posted that the current beta of 10.13.4 seems to solve the issue. So at least there is hope for a fix soon.
