Photos on mac stuck on updating

icloud and Apple are a pain, icloud space is very sketchy...

Anyway, after weeks of deleting media (which we still cannot order in terms of file size easily 😐) and still being near to 50GB hmnn... I have given in and upgraded to the larger icloud storage. This was mainly because I'm fed up with the pops up and my photos on my mac aren't updating due to the lack of space.

Now I upgraded yesterday and photo's went from icloud is full (even though I was on 48GB) to 'updating...' now I have increased the storage.

But it's stuck... nothing is happening. Online I read to go to system preferences > icloud > photos click options. So I have done this but everything I do it just freezes and does nothing.

I have turned my laptop on and off, force quit system preferences and photos... what else can I do? Really starting to annoy me since I'm paying for more storage

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) macOS High Sierra 10.13.2

Lastly, I really really don't want to start signing out of icloud on my phone, mac etc... I've seen so many problems when doing this in the past and would really like to avoid any more problems.

quit Photos and shut down your Mac and restart and see it that will kick things off - and be patient, 12,729 photos and videos will take several days to several weeks to sync, especially large videos and you have a lot of videos a bit over 10% of your library)

How much free space do you have on your Mac? On iCloud?

and to see if there are any specific problems items make two new smart albums (file menu ==> new smart album)

1 - Photo - is - refferenced

2 - Photo - is - unable to upload to iCloud Photo Liibrary

Both smart albums should be empty

And signing our of iCloud and back in or tingurn ICPL off and on again is the absolute last resort since it restarts the upload of All photos all over again

To see your photos and videos in Photos sorted by file size, you may want to try power photos, this program can be used to browse a photos library and sort the photos by the file size. The free trial version will suffice for this.
