Need to upload iPhone photos to my Mac.

I have an ancient iPhone. I updated it today when I was prompted. There is no option in iCloud to sync my photos with my Mac. Therefore, it won't allow me to turn on My Photo Stream. Since updating, there is no prompt that pops up when I plug my phone into the computer. How can I upload my photos from my phone to my computer?
