So you went from an iPhone 7 to iPhone 6s? Why?

There is not enough radiation in the iPhone to cause any pain and recent studies have shown that the SARS levels in phones is far too low for tissue damage.

There is a setting on the iPhone for blocking background noise that may be causing your issue. I don't have a 6s but the guide to the phone is online.

Some people have issues with the cancellation used on many phones, including the iPhone.

You can turn it off in Settings>General>Accessibility. That should help.

Noice cancellation picks up ambient sound using the mic on the back of the phone and plays back a reverse waveform of that sound along with the standard waveform of the incoming call to try to eliminate excess noise in the earpiece.

This causes problem for some people with sensitive hearing or inner or middle ear deformities.
