I use gmail in Apple Mail on my iMac and want to add it to my laptop but google keeps showing offline

I'm using my gmail account in Apple Mail on my iMac. I have an Apple laptop now and want to use Apple Mail on it with my same gmail account but, it isn't working. I'm not getting any errors, but in the email account set up it just keeps showing checking instead of on line. Can anyone offer any help?

I did also go into my gmail account & enable less secure apps to access my mail.
