If you manually deleted them or if you had Settings > Messages > Keep Messages set to automatically delete them after 30 days and they were deleted, the only way to retrieve them would be if you had an iCloud or iTunes backup from before they were deleted. Restoring from a backup replaces all of the data currently on your phone (not just messages) with the data from the backup. Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support
