i phone 6 purchased in Japan

I purchased i phone 6 through Softbank about 3 years ago in Japan. I am currently based in the other country and come back to Japan only a few days in a year.

When I went to Apple store in Omote Sando to unlock my SIM last summer as I heard the Japanese SIM lock policy changed to that Japanese SIM can be unlocked after 2 years of using Japanese carrier, the staffs replied me that it can not be unlocked because it is i phone 6 (not i phone 6 plus). According to them they will unlock SIM from i phone 6 plus, which is ridiculous. Now I have had this i phone for 3 years but could use it only twice a year when I get back to Japan for a few days. This is disappointing and not international standard. Is there any way to unlock this SIM??

Carrier lock: How to unlock your iPhone for use with a different carrier - http://support.apple.com/HT201328 - Only some carriers offer the ability to unlock iPhone for use on any carrier. Follow the instructions in this article to unlock your iPhone.

Only the carrier can unlock the phone. If Softbank says they will not then it cannot be unlocked, sorry.
