Poor Transmission Quality with 6s Plus

My 6s Plus has had a glitch since I got it a year or so ago. When I am speaking the party to whom I am talking cannot easily understand me unless I put the phone on speaker mode. Any ideas as to what's up with it? Privacy is sometimes needed in my work and I cannot carry on a conversation in these situations without finding a secluded place to talk.
