why does my macbook pro have a Folder with a? In it when I started up

my computer had an update that needed to be installed so I installed it but I have problems installing it and something happen took me to a page where I had a lot of codes on it and I shut the computer off and when I turned it back on a folder with the? That’s constantly blinking appears on my screen it doesn’t let me do anything
