tried restoring & updating ipad with forgotten passcode on itunes, recieving error message

Hello,
my little sister has forgotten her iPad passcode and has locked herself out
I have tried resetting & restoring on itunes but i am receiving an error message 'unknown error occured'

iPad Mini Wi-Fi + Cellular
