Display Green w/DVI adapter

When connecting a new HD display to macBook Pro using a VGA to DVI adaper, then screen looks green. Works fine with HDMI cable but I need two/three displays. How to correct? I am seeing question posed by others with no apparent solution?

I don't have one to verifiy but did that laptop come with a DVI port built in or is it an aftermarket converter? if it's a converter (or not) try the suggestions below before you decide if you want to replace it:

if it looks fine with HDMI it could be a bad or bent pin or bad cable on the DVI.

reseat the cable, if the problem persists replace it. Also check your DVI port on the laptop and the back of the display. You may want to spray them indirectly on an angle (instead of blasting it directly into the port) with some compressed air
