upgrading operating system and hdd on Macbook pro mid 2010

Hi,

I have a 15" macbook pro mid 2010 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 running on OS X Yosemite 10.10.5.

In the past I removed the cd and replaced it with my old 500 gig hdd and used the hdd slot for a ssd 500 gig which my system runs on. (so now i have two hard drives: sad and hdd)

2 questions:

I would like to upgrade my hdd capacity, what is the maximum size i can use? and what model is compatible?

I would like to upgrade my operating system, what is the latest I can use?

best option to upgrade imac hard drive hi all i have a 2015 iMac i bought refurbished from a local store here were i live, i think it has had some upgrades before as its showing it has 500GB ssd , but i would like options whats the best way to go about upgrading this to a 1tb , go with a external which i have but can't for the likes of me figure out how to install programs to it on mac os big sur. or take it to a shop and have them upgrade it?. any help appreciated god bless.
