Question: Cannot restore old iphone. How do I dispose of it?

Hiya -

I have has an old iPhone 4 in a drawer and finally got it out to recycle but, I cannot get it to connect to iTunes, cannot unlock it (iPhone is disabled) and the home button appears to no longer work so I cannot do a hard restore.

I want to dispose of this iPhone without my data being at risk - any tips?

Thank you.

Nobody is going to spend the time and money needed to get at the data unless there is some indication that it's worth it.

If it had a passcode set, your data is reasonably safe. It would take special equipment and a lot of work to get at the data (after repairing the phone) without knowing the passcode.
