Can I get back my former iTunes library

I lost my library from my iPod, then restored it, then tried to reload my iTunes library and found that most of it was gone. This included language courses, many lecture courses from the Great Courses, other books - all things I had not purchased from ITunes (I think) Does iTunes have an earlier version that I could download. Could I remove the recent update and recover my previous library? How can I get them back?

MacBook Pro, iOS 10.3.3, It's actually 10.10.5

See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash and/or Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. If the library was previously on your current computer then it is probable that the media is still there. Otherwise you can look to your backups, previous computers, or media stored on a device. Apple do not store earlier snapshots of your library for downloading on demand.
